I Grew a Watermelon, Time to Monster It

The best part of about growing your own organic watermelon, is that you know there aren’t any nasty chemicals on the rind!  That means you can juice the whole thing baby!  And since the rind is the most enzyme and nutrient rich part, you’d be wise to give it a try!

Carrot Orange Beet Juice

What can make the ever-stupendous carrot-orange juice recipe even better?  Beets!!!  Beets have high level of anti-carcinogenic compounds, so they make incredibly healthy juices!  They are pumped full of antioxidants that protect the body against heart disease and certain cancers (mainly colon cancer). Beets get their red-color from the pigment betacyanin which increases the oxygen-carrying ability of the blood by up to 400 per cent!  Wowzers!  That’s great news for athletes!

If you knew that cucumbers were great for fighting and preventing kidney, urinary tract, bladder, liver and pancreatic diseases, wouldn’t you eat more of them?  And if you were aware that cabbage could help eliminate/prevent constipation, stomach ulcers, skin disorders, prostate and heart diseases, you might look for a ways to eat more of it too!  Well how about making all that super easy with a delicious, nutritious juice!

Apple Celery Cucumber Juice

October 14, 2011 By: fruitmonster Category: Juice Recipes

I think it is safe to say that I’m on a celery kick!  But who can blame me?  Celery is inexpensive, extremely healthy for you and is a whole heck of a lot better tasting juiced than straight out of the garden!  Plus the celery bunches I bought were the length of my arm and the width of my head!  Thats GINORMOUS!

Today’s juice is a slight permutation of the apple celery juice I posted two days ago.  Whats the new mix-up?  Add a cucumber!

Apple Celery Cucumber Juice Recipe:

2 large green apples (seeds removed)

1 medium cucumber (~ 6 in/15cm)

5 large celery stalks (< 12 in/30cm)

 Juice It!

yields ~ .5 L juice (double that for a monster appetite)

Sweet Potato Apple Juice

Sweet Potato, All 9 Amino Acids!

So we all know that sweet potatoes go great with thanksgiving meals and make tasty fries (or as Aussies would say ‘hot chips’), but have you ever tried juicing one?  Well I hadn’t either until today!  And the results was… well, SWEET!  But on top of tasting great, sweet potatoes are yet another very healthy food.  Just like the celery I wrote about yesterday, sweet potatoes are very high in vitamin A, while also being filled with vitamin C, vitamin B6, potassium and manganese.  The sweet potato is also a source of  copper and iron, which is great for your blood.  It also contains all of the essential amino acids (that’s proteins) that your body requires (hence ‘essential’), so you can ignore all those false claims about not getting enough proteins from fruits and veggies!

So what are you waiting for?  Go buy some sweet potatoes and start adding them to your juices!

Apple Celery Juice

October 12, 2011 By: fruitmonster Category: Juice Recipes

Hooray!  Yesterday, my new Oscar Vital Max 900 masticating juicer arrived!  Which is sooo exciting, because I have been without a juicer for over 3 months now and I’ve certainly missed the loads of fresh, raw, living juice that I used to consume daily!  But this is also great news for you, because now FruitMonster.com will be featuring loads of new juice recipes!  Woo hoo!  Everybody is a winner :-D

Today’s new juice is a combination of Apples and Celery!  It might sound simple and boring, but it is actually incredibly healthy!  Celery is great for juicing due to its high water content and is equally stupendous for your body.  It’s leaves are a particularly great source of vitamin A (important for vision and gene transcription – a cancer fighter!) and the stalk is full of vitamins B1, B2, B6 and C.  It is also packed with potassium, folic acid, calcium, magnesium, iron, phosphorus, sodium and the full spectrum of essential amino acids (aka proteins).

So why not whip yourself up one of these tasty juices!  Go on, do it!

Apple Celery Juice Recipe:

3-4 large green apples (seeds removed)

5 large celery stalks (< 12 in/30cm)

Grind it to a pulp in your juicer!

yields ~ .5 L juice (triple that for a monster appetite)
